The Challenge
When Riverstone Retirement Communities wanted to open a new facility in the growing community of Barrhaven, they required an all-in-one life safety system. They hired Capello to provide them with a building-wide network, as well as card access, surveillance, and nurse-call life safety systems for the facility and its 140 suites.
The Solution
We employed state-of-the-art nurse-call systems building-wide. Wireless repeaters receive alerts from resident pendants or pull stations located in each suite. These alerts are relayed to nursing staff through three different workstations, located on the assisted living floors, and through the associated mobile application on specialized smartphones. The software on the nurse-call server allows for easy and detailed reporting, which can be used to ensure all residents are getting the care they require in a timely manner.
The facility is equipped with a robust, elegant card access system, comprising of wireless locks for the suites, traditional wired doors for building entry and exit, and security readers for service areas. The card access system stores the credentials and permissions on the access fobs, meaning that even in the event of a network outage, the system will still function properly and securely.
The entire building is covered by WiFi 6 service. This was achieved by deploying a web of top quality access points, located for optimal coverage. Each suite was provided with a fully configured VoIP phone that is hard-wired into the same network. With network infrastructure on each floor, redundancy in coverage enhances the security and stability of this vital network.
The Results
The entire integration was designed from the ground up by Capello Systems and executed with the utmost care and coordination. The building’s systems now all live on one network, by one provider, and can be managed with efficiency and ease. Residents and staff alike can rest easy knowing these vital systems are solid.
